California Auto Insurance

Auto insurance is possibly one of the most misunderstood policies. Many times clients will ask for "Full Coverage", not realizing what this means to an insurance agent. Below is a brief explanation for your knowledge. (Not all coverages are the same or offered in all states. Please check with your state dept. of Insurance or insurance professional).

Liability Insurance: This covers the insured (You) for injuries to "Other parties and or their property" You as defined in your auto insurance policy can mean "You the owner of the policy", or You the driver of an "Insured automobile", not owned by you. Your policy may have different limits and conditions that apply depending on if you are the named insured or simply the operator of the vehicle.

Uninsured Motorist: This coverage is written to insure "you" the occupant of the insured vehicle. It provides coverage to occupants of the automobile that are injured in an accident that is caused as the result of an "Uninsured Driver" being at fault in the accident. The coverage may also extend to cover you and your family outside of your automobile that are injured be an uninsured driver. As this is an "Optional" coverage, you may or may not elect to purchase this. Note: You may also purchase uninsured motorist "property damage & Or Underinsured Motorist" coverage. please consult your insurance professional.

Comprehensive: Provides coverage for fire, theft vandalism, glass breakage, and even "Flood damage" to insured vehicle. You can take advantage of "Deductibles" to lower the cost of insurance. The deductible is the amount you as the insured pay or bear as your personal cost or expense before the insurance begins to provide coverage for losses. By use of deductible, your cost for the insurance will drop, as you accept the burden of small dollar damages.

Collision: Provides coverage for your vehicle for the perils of Collision with another vehicle or object, or vehicle roll-over.

Rental Reimbursement: When you purchase this coverage, you will be given the opportunity to Rent a replacement vehicle for a specified number of days, and at a maximum dollar amount of replacement auto rental. You may have 10, 15, 30 days of coverage. You should consult your agent, as this is a optional coverage, and may not be provided or available.

Towing: Will tow your vehicle, usually to the nearest garage capable of servicing your vehicle. As the policies differ in amounts or distance of the tow and charge, consult your agent for particulars.

Note: Not all policies cover the same. Some policies will adjust or lower limits that are provided to "You" depending who "You" is! If you are the "Operator, but not the "insured owner", "You" may have coverage apply differently in the event of an accident. As states have different rules and regulations, your actual coverage(s) may vary from the above. Please be sure your limits are satisfactory, as "YOU" will be responsible for any charges in excess of the coverage you have purchased.
